This is the kind of song you want to kick back to while sitting in front of a warm fire on a Sunday night. Martha Groves Perry’s vocals carry the song like a mother carries a child to bed. There is so much love and comfort in this song and it reminds us how beautiful romance can be.

Perry’s lyrics speak to the incredible impact that a lover’s connection can have on your soul. The lyrics however are not gratuitous nor are they graphic, rather they are very poetic and speak to the grandeur of a special romantic encounter …. “Tender Lover” is the kind of song that will warm you up on a cold rainy night and have you dreaming of romance.

The song “Butterfly” is a standout track on the album.

A gorgeous, rich cello melody starts the introduction of “Butterfly.” Martha plays the cello part with great sensitivity. As she masters the legato lines, short electric guitar riffs come in and out like sparkles of sun for a dynamic contrast. A deep and resonating hand drum sets the pulse. The sound feels ancient, almost Celtic, and is reminiscent of artists like Loreena Mckennitt who know how to tap into a spirit from deep within.

This buildup from a rich, ancient sound to a full folk-rock sound is seamless and perfectly depicts the song’s meaning.

This tender and powerful song explores the complex inner longing to connect and help without stepping over boundaries …. In a sense, both the parent and the child are like butterflies experiencing a metamorphosis of growth and new understandings.

In “Butterfly” Martha Groves Perry puts her heart on her sleeve without going overboard. Her straight forward honesty yields an authentic performance that is truly moving and tender. She beautifully captures the sometimes complex and beautiful relationship between parents and their adult children and the inner desire to maintain a role given at birth that slowly lets go for the sake of love.

With its first few upbeat chords and forward-moving rhythms your mood is immediately lifted. This is unquestionably the universal mood of this bright, strength-inspiring song. Throughout, we are treated to Martha Groves Perry’s clear, satisfying voice above a rich acoustic mix. What more could you ask for?

“Hold On” presents an engaging, well-conceived track. The forward motion train-like rhythm of the guitars perfectly capture the song’s message and energy … With sonic positivity and beautiful energy, the artist’s words convey a message of strength and courage.

Martha Groves Perry “Hold On” is a breath of fresh air performed by a stellar artist.
