Song Story: I See You

I sat at a dinner with someone I’d been at odds with in an effort to get past the difficulty, even though we weren’t speaking about it that night. This person repeatedly locked eyes with me from across the table, and it was the same, caged animal look that I had seen years before. I thought I should look away and not participate, but I was so startled by the fact that it seemed nothing had changed with this person in all those years. I decided instead to look carefully, and this song speaks what I saw that night and the exhilaration of declaring independence from old mental and emotional traps.

In addition to songwriting, lead vocals, and writing the harmony vocals, I played acoustic guitar and performed backing vocals on this song. Kenny Schick, my producer, also sang backing vocals and played or programmed all of the other instruments. Kenny recorded his parts at Basement3Productions in Boulder Creek, California, where I also recorded my vocals and acoustic guitar parts in February 2016.
