There was one night when my daughter was about 13 when it was just the two of us at home. She was in a very playful mood, and she decided to teach me ballet. Bear in mind that she is now a professional ballet dancer, so this was no small thing. She taught me how to hold my arms and my body and complimented me on my form. As the evening progressed, however, it devolved into an insane dance party. She put on crazy music, and we flailed around like a couple of idiots until we collapsed. It was truly a magical night.
That night, I dreamed this song, including many of the lyrics, and I knew it was about her. I think the melodies are so pretty, and I love the beautifully odd vibe that my producer, Kenny Schick, put on the song. I doubled down on that vibe by writing insanely close harmonies, and I love how it turned out.
In addition to songwriting, lead vocals, and writing the harmony vocals, I performed backing vocals on this song. Kenny Schick, my producer, also sang backing vocals and played or programmed all of the instruments. Kenny recorded his parts at Basement3Productions in Nashville, Tennessee, and I recorded my parts in May 2022 with Steven Glaze at ToneFreq Studio in San Jose, California.
