Song Story: Three Days

This is an old one, but it’s a crowd pleaser. It came from a time when I felt like I was regularly screwing myself up by having no space between stimulus and response; instead, I was very reactive, especially to anything that upset me. I then instituted a “three day rule,” requiring myself to wait 3 full 24-hour periods after receiving a triggering stimulus before I allowed myself to respond. This rule has since saved me repeatedly, and interestingly, only once did a situation require a response in fewer than three days. I figured if Christ took 3 days to rise from the dead, I can freaking wait three days to respond to an email that pisses me off. So this song is kind of a funny, self-deprecating song with a bite.

In addition to songwriting, lead vocals, and writing the harmony vocals, I played acoustic guitar and performed backing vocals on this song. Kenny Schick, my producer, also sang backing vocals and played or programmed all of the other instruments. Kenny recorded his parts at Basement3Productions in Nashville, TN, and I recorded my acoustic guitar and vocal parts in May 2018 with Steven Glaze at ToneFreq Studio in San Jose, California.
