3. Short Bio (<100 words)

Martha Groves Perry is a San Francisco original indie rocker combining evocative, visceral songwriting with a voice like salty potato chips and dark chocolate to crystallize often unexpressed core emotions and insights. Her bold Alternative Rock has a provocative clarity with flavors of Americana and blues.

Martha’s unique voice as a songwriter and vocalist captivated legendary guitarist and producer Pat Thrall (Pat Travers, Meatloaf + 4 Grammy nominations), and they partnered in 2025 to produce her originals. The second single from this collaboration – I ASKED JESUS & HE SAID NO – released on September 23, 2026.

4. Full Bio (<300 words)

Martha Groves Perry is a San Francisco original indie rocker combining evocative, visceral songwriting with a voice like salty potato chips and dark chocolate to crystallize often unexpressed core emotions and insights. Her bold Alternative Rock has a provocative clarity with flavors of Americana and blues, and her penetrating lyrics reflect the fearless truth-telling and unbothered amusement of a seasoned, female point of view.

Having begun her recording career as a cello soloist on classical, rock, and folk releases, Martha toured with Michelle Shocked on cello and backing vocals in 2011. This experience spurred her to write her own music, and she released her first solo EP in 2016. Subsequent albums released in 2020 and 2023, when she completed a 6-city US tour including a debut in Nashville, where she shared a bill with Greg Camp of SmashMouth.

Martha’s unique voice both as a songwriter and a vocalist captivated legendary guitarist and producer Pat Thrall (Pat Travers, Hughes/Thrall, Meatloaf + 4 Grammy nominations), and they partnered in 2025 to record and release her originals. The second single from this collaboration – I ASKED JESUS & HE SAID NO – released on September 23, 2026. The first – BE RIGHT BACK – released in January 2026, with five more singles to come. Clarence Collins (Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Little Anthony and the Imperials) also collaborated on vocal arrangements for two of the songs.

Some characterize Martha’s music as a cross between Tom Waits, early Gwen Stefani, and the Indigo Girls, and her distinctive vocal style has been placed alongside those of Natalie Merchant, Stevie Nicks, Ricki Lee Jones, and Patti Smith. Martha captivates audiences with a magnetic stage presence alongside committed, engaging performances of her meaningful and substantive songs. Martha performs both solo and with her 4-piece band, The Martha Groves Perry Band.

7. Project Artist Statement – 1 Sentence, 1st person

I ASKED JESUS & HE SAID NO is a protest song about speaking up and taking a stand — rather than staying fearful and silent — articulated through the lens of the hypocrisy of the right’s using Jesus to justify perverse and reprehensible political agendas.

8. Project Artist Narrative – 3 Sentences, 1st person

An urgent need to articulate myself against voices in my upbringing who sought to tell me who I was but were getting it wrong drove many pages of furtive scribbling in padded gingham diaries. Offering these insights – narrating the unspoken and often misrepresented underside of being human and female – is the business of my songwriting. I ASKED JESUS & HE SAID NO is a protest song about speaking up and taking a stand — rather than staying fearful and silent — articulated through the lens of the hypocrisy of the right’s using Jesus to justify perverse and reprehensible political agendas.
